If you hate your job, you are not alone

Here in the UK we’re in a crisis of career happiness, with a shocking 90% of employees reporting that they feel disengaged in their work, according to Gallup’s latest State of the Global Workforce report.

This places us as one of the least engaged countries in the world.

According to Gallup, this is costing the country £257 billion annually – about the same amount as it costs to run the NHS!

Why are so many people here quiet quitting their way into a coma?

Here are some of the things I’m hearing from the many people I speak to who are wanting a career change. They…

  • Fell into their jobs after education and never had any guidance about how to find anything better.

  • Work for an organisation with a toxic culture, ineffectual leaders or bad management.

  • Are treated, by their employers, like a human resource, rather than a human.

  • Have mounting stress and overwhelm from unrealistic expectations / a lack of sufficient resources.

  • Can’t see the wider social value in what they are doing, other than filling the pockets of shareholders.

This dire state of employee engagement can’t go on.

I’m happy to help however many people I can make a move into more fulfilling work, but what I would really love (even though it might put me out of a job!) is if employers put staff happiness at the top of the agenda.

In the meantime, if you’re one of the 90% and you need a lifeline, I’m here!
